[Videos] Control Arms campaign in Manchester

Politics Not vetted story Vetted story Manchester, Great Britain - 27 May 2012

In the afternoon of this very sunny Sunday, 27 May 2012, the global Control Arms campaign set up its stall in St. Ann's Square, Manchester, England, with an eye catching presentation of gravestones in the middle of the Square. Representatives from Amnesty International and Oxfam, who support Control Arms, were busily involved when I asked one of them, Mike Reed, to explain the campaign for those who may find difficulty understanding this combination of those charities with this global alliance. (Mike Reed explains very clearly in Part 1 of these video clips.)

Control Arms is a global civil society alliance campaigning for a “bulletproof” Arms Trade Treaty that will protect lives and livelihoods. A “bulletproof” Arms Trade Treaty means an international legally-binding agreement that will stop transfers of arms and ammunitions that fuel conflict, poverty and serious violations of human rights and international humanitarian law.

More information can be found on the website of Control Arms.
