[Video] Perth: Protesters march against remote communities closuresNews , Australia - 01 May 2015
Protesters in Perth marched along St Georges Terrace to parliament on May 1, 2015, as thousands rallied around Australia and overseas against the Western Australian government's plans to close up to 150 remote communities.
Australian Greens Leader Christine Milne and Senator Rachel Siewert spoke to hundreds of protesters gathered in the CBD ahead of the march, with chants of "always was, always will be Aboriginal land" and "close the gap, not our communities" coming from crowd as they headed through the city.
The WA government plans on ceasing to provide basic services to up to 150 remote communities, which the federal government last year decided to stop funding, handing responsibility to the state.
The Perth rally was one of dozens organised around Australia, with protests also planned for the United States, Canada, New Zealand, the UK, and Germany.
