I saw this story on the Citizenside and thought you should see it

Video : exhibition of Salford's lost streets

Entertainment Salford, United Kingdom - 08 October 2010
The Angel Centre, Salford
Exhibition: ‘Streets Museum’
23 September 2010 – 4th January 2011
The exhibition contains images from the growing A-Z of Lost Streets project. Each family were given space to exhibit their own snaps by the curator.

Local people were also invited to bring in snaps, stories and street signs they had kept for decades.

Many people brought things in and contributed, as the exhibition was effectively advertised in the local press. We will be holding sessions in the gallery, where people can add to the material on an ongoing basis.

Over one thousand five hundred streets have been demolished in central Salford in the past fifty years. Communities have been fragmented and dispersed.

In response to the ongoing eradication of working class cultural sites, we are collecting objects from Salford residents as part of the ReTracing Salford outreach project.

Using The District Six Museum, South Africa as inspiration, we archive and preserve images, films, artefacts and oral histories from lost streets. We aim to create an online Streets Museum, to enable families, friends and relations of Salfordians to search for and commemorate their districts and streets. We work with artists, museums, schools, universities and community organisations, in order to construct inclusive exhibitions that investigate issues of class representation.
