Queen’s Diamond Jubilee marks 60 years of Elizabeth II’s reign

Entertainment - January 1st 2012

Various celebrations will take place throughout the spring before the official celebrations begin from June 2 to 5, 2012.
The Queen came to the throne on February 6, 1952, but her actual coronation took place on June 2, 1953.
Her Silver Jubilee, which commemorated 25 years of her reign, was in 1977. The Queen’s Golden Jubilee, marking half a century, occurred in 2002.

As part of the Diamond Jubilee year, the Duke of Glouchester visited the British Virgin Islands, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall toured Scandinavia and Prince Harry visited the Bahamas and Jamaica on behalf of the Queen.
The Queen celebrated Commonwealth Day in Westminister Abbey. The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh also paid a visit to Greater Manchester at the end of March 2012 and helped open MediaCityUK as a part of their royal engagements. (MediaCityUK is the new home for the BBC, ITV, Coronation Street, SIS and the University of Salford.)
The two, with help from other royal family members, have made plans to travel as much as possible across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland for the Diamond Jubilee year.
The Queen will celebrate her 86th birthday on April 21.
