Student protests in Chile

Politics Chile - August 26th 2011

Students in Chile have been protesting for a change in the way the government handles education, a model that has been around since the time of dictator Pinochet. Schools and universities are mostly privatized. Only 45% of high school students attend public schools and most universities are also private.

Since May 2011, students have staged regular protests, marches and sit-ins.

Find out more about the protests.
