Ivory Coast: From Presidential Election to Civil War
World leaders have voiced their support for Ivory Coast opposition candidate Alassane Ouattara; declared as winner of the presidential election on December 2, 2010. As opposition to this outcome, however, the Ivorian Constitutional Council said President Laurent Gbagbo had won the election.
After a four-month-long political crisis, troops loyal to Alassane Ouattara have begun a march on Abidjan, the economic capital of the country. The conflict has killed several hundreds of people on both sides.
