ccording to the report of Amnesty International published on June 30th, the Niger Delta is victim of environmental pollutions caused by oil industries.
The NGO denounces the Nigerian government but also the Dutch oil company Shell, in the violation of human rights of the local populations.
In spite of 600 billion dollars profits done since the 60’s, 31 million persons have been impoverishing and suffering from devastator effects of oil.
In thirty years, more than 6800 oil escapes have been involved the discharge of 3 million barrels in the area, according to the United Nations.
Francis Perrin, member of the executive office of A.I, affirmed during a press conference : "Oil pollution is visible everywhere, people walk in oil pond, the air and water are polluted by the flaring, the fishermen capture fish polluted with heavy metals, coming from the residues of drilling".
The situation which have been lasted for 50 years, creates tensions within communities, and feeds the protests of rebels. In reply, armed forces react with violent repressions against the civilians.
