International Pillow Fight Day was held on Saturday, April 7, 2012. In Paris, France, hundreds of people of all ages and races battled on the forecourt of the Basilique du Sacré Coeur.
The first International Pillow Fight Day was initiated on March 22, 2008 in order to break a world record. Since then, its popularity has swept the world with battles throughout Hong Kong, the United States of America, Australia, Spain, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Brazil, Serbia and other countries.
Street cleaners swept up thousands of down feathers and stuffing debris when the battle was completed.
The Pillow Fight remained relatively peaceful without incident, although in Shanghai, police were apprehensive of the festivities and stopped citizens from pummeling each other in the People’s Square.
Organized by a group that calls itself the urban playground movement, the next International Pillow Fight day is set for Saturday, April 6, 2013.
