University of the Philippines Diliman all set for graduation rites

World News Quezon City, Philippines - 26 April 2013

The University of the Philippines Diliman is all set for the 2013 graduation ceremonies to be held on Sunday, April 28.

Thousands of sunflowers, now in full bloom, greet UP constituents and visitors, starting from the University Avenue all the way to the UP Lagoon and nearby college buildings.

Thousands of photography enthusiasts, together with graduates and their families, are trooping to UP Diliman to take souvenir photos of the famed sunflowers and UP graduation traditions. UP Diliman is said to have 100,000 visitors on peak days.

The UP Oblation statue is adorned with the UP Sablay (sash), "the official academic costume of the University of the Philippines". Finishing touches are being done at the stage at Quezon Hall, the UP administration building.

The commencement exercises on the afternoon of the 28th will have the formal conferment of degrees and Latin honors, graduation messages, traditional lightning rally, and endless pictorials in the scenic and historic national university.

UP has over 50,000 students in its seven constituent universities and 15 campuses across the archipelago, and has more than 260,000 alumni worldwide. UP has produced Presidents, Legislators, Chief Justices of the Supreme Court, and majority of the national scientists and national artists of the Philippines since it was established in 1908.
