A Jakarta court sentenced Umar Patek to 20 years in prison for assisting in numerous bombings, on June 21, 2012.

According to a CNN article, Patek was found guilty of premeditated murder and conspiracy, after helping to smuggle explosives to terrorists responsible for the 2002 nightclub bombings in Bali. The bombings resulted in the deaths of over 200 people, including 88 Australians and 7 Americans. He was the last of the four masterminds to be tried.

Patek has also been linked to other terrorist attacks, including the bombing of several churches on Christmas Eve 2000. In addition, he assisted a military camp in Aceh, Indonesia by smuggling firearms from the Philippines.

CNN states Patek is one of the remaining figures from Jemaah Islamiyah, a terrorist group linked to al-Qaeda.

Patek was captured in Pakistan in January 2011. Judges gave Patek a lighter sentence for his cooperation with authorities and for his expressed regret for his actions.
