A polio prevention campaign was launched in Peshawar, Pakistan, on Thursday, May 31, 2012. The Federal Minister for Interprovincial relations, Malik Azmat Khan, inaugurated the polio awareness campaign at the Peshawar Press Club. The Provincial Head of UNICEF and WHO also attended the program.

Pakistan seems to be moving along quite well in the fight against polio as there have been 16 cases reported in 2012 so far whereas in 2011 there were 41. But some health experts worry that a delay in the delivery of the polio vaccine will cause the country to start getting behind the game of beating polio.

Executive Distric Officer and Health Doctor Aslam gave a press briefing to the District Coordination Officer about what steps should be taken to eliminate polio. Among what was discussed: a three-day anti-polio drive will start on July 16 and all teachers, Patwaris, Union Council secretaries and Ulema will take part in the drive.
