Nine killed in Mangalore vehicle accident

World News Mangalore, India - 06 May 2012

Nine workers were killed in Mangalore on May 6, 2012, after a driver lost control of a Tempo Trax and it fell into a gorge. The laborers were on their way to Mangalore Special Economic Zone. The vehicle was normally meant for transporting goods. The accident occurred around 2 p.m. The driver was allegedly speeding when the tempo fell at least ten feet into the gorge.

The MSEZ employs around 25,000 for civil labor and other construction work. There were about 25 people in the vehicle, all from north India and areas such as Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Bihar. About 15 have been hospitalized. People were angered by this accident, especially when they saw another MSEZ Tempo Trax carrying laborers and passing by Jojatte.

Two of the deceased have been identified as Chandan Kumar and Chandru, both of whom passed away in AJ Hospital where all the injured had been admitted.

Some of the injured were identified as Safayan (19), Abhishek (18), Indrajit (25), Shaji (30), Karthik Maranaa (25), Gurucharan (35), Karaneshwar Nair (44), Sheikh Imran (19), Poojananda Paida (25), Hemanth (21) and Chandalal (24). The ones who did not survive were being identified by authorities.
