Teachers in Pakistan's Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) stage a protest in front of the FATA secretariat on May 1, 2012 in Peshawar. According to our contributor, female teachers participated in the protest, demanding that the government pay their salary for the last 19 months and regularize their job.

An recent article in the Express Tribune indicated that the community schools program, established in 1998, was initially a method to provide education to FATA children, at a relatively cheap price. Most of the funding originated from foreign aid organizations. The regional government, in recent years, has had difficulty paying teachers on time.
