Bradley Wiggins becomes first Brit to win the Tour de France

Sports Paris, France - 22 July 2012

At 32 years old, Bradley Wiggins (from Team Sky) became the first British rider to win the Tour de France on July 22, 2012. He maintained the yellow jersey throughout the last stage of the Tour de France, which extended from Rambouillet commune to the Champs-Elysées avenue in Paris. Wiggins is also the first Brit to reach the Tour de France podium.

Wiggins is the son of a former Australian cyclist who specialized in six-day racing and passed away in 2008. Wiggins best performance in the Tour de France, prior to this year, was in 2009, when he arrived in fourth place.

Bradley Wiggins first became known as a track cyclist. He is a three-time Olympic champion, winning a bronze medal at the 2000 Olympic games in Sydney, the gold, silver, and bronzes medal at the 2004 Olympic games in Athens, and a gold medal at the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing. He is expected to win the road race event at the upcoming London Olympics.
