Giant Olympic rings unveiled at Tower Bridge, one-month before Olympic games

Sports London, Great Britain - 27 June 2012

Giant Olympic rings were lowered on Tower Bridge, on Wednesday June 27, 2012. The unveiling marked one month until the start of the 2012 Olympic Games, which will take place from July 27 to August 12.

The five Olympic rings weigh three tons. The rings are 25 meters wide and 11.5 meters tall, and, according to an article in The Independent, cost £259,817 to construct and £53,000 to install.

Lord Coe, the chairman for the London 2012 committee, and Boris Johnson, the city's mayor, attended the unveiling. A light show followed the ceremony.

In addition to Tower Bridge, London Bridge and Hungerford Bridge will be illuminated during the games.

The light show will be part of London's Look and Celebration program, which will include numerous free events and shows, in order to display the City's attractions.

The Agitos, the symbol for the Paralympic Games, will replace the Olympic rings following the end to the games.
