England will face Italy on Sunday, June 24 in the quarterfinals. As a result of England's victory, France will be able to advance to the quarterfinals.
England has yet to win a Euro 2012 tournament. The European Football Championship began in 1960 and takes place every four years. This year, a total of 16 countries competed. These countries included Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Greece, the Republic of Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Sweden and the Ukraine.
In addition to England and France, Germany, the Czech Republic, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain remain in the competition.
