A child dips his hand in yellow paint and leaves a handprint on the sidewalk around the Catalonian Education Department during a public education strike in Barcelona on September 13, 2012. The strike was organized by the UGT union and gathered primary and secondary school teachers to protest against education cuts for the second day in a row.
The UGT union stands for Union General de Trabajadores. It was started in 1888 by Pablo Iglesias Posse and was aligned with the Socialist Party and Marxist ideals. The newspaper El Socialista was associated with the party and advocated these ideals to its readers. Today the party stands for justice, equality, and solidarity for all productive workers.
