New Democracy, Greece's conservative party, won the parliamentary election on June 17, 2012. Sunday's parliamentary election was the country's second attempt to form a new government, after the May 6 elections, the results of which were inconclusive.

"The pro-bailout New Democracy party has come out on top in Greece’s parliamentary elections, having gained 30 per cent of the votes. With more than 80 per cent of votes counted, the anti-austerity leftist Syriza party is trailing on 26.6 per cent."
According to an article, the New Democracy party will be forced to form a coalition government. Antonis Samaras, the head of New Democracy, will lead talks between his party and the Pasok, considered center-left on the political spectrum.
Sunday's election also confirmed the far-right party, Golden Dawn, would retain its seats in Parliament.
Greek voters remain divided between wanting a bailout and reducing austerity measures. Greece is currently in its fifth year of recession, with a 22% unemployment rate, the highest unemployment rate in the history of the country.
