Egyptians reacted to former President Hosni Mubarak's sentence to life in prison on June 2, 2012 in Cairo. These photos were taken outside the police academy courthouse, on the outskirts of Cairo.
Mubarak, who ruled Egypt for over three decades, was charged with the killing of over 800 protesters in 2011, during the uprising which resulted in his ousting from power.
Former Interior Minister, Habib al-Adly, also received a life sentence. In addition, Mubarak's two sons Gamal and Alaa, were acquitted, after corruption charges.
While some were satisfied with Mubarak's life sentence, many Egyptians took to the streets of Cairo to protest the Court's decision, asking that Mubarak be sentenced to death. The former leader is expected to appeal the decision.
According to an article in TIME magazine, the Muslim Brotherhood has already called for protests throughout the country.
The trial has received much criticism. Many view Mubarak's recent sentence as a political tool, conveniently timed for the second round of presidential elections.
