Occupy Wall Street protesters march on the streets of New York City for May Day on May 1, 2012. Protesters gathered for a rally in Union Square which featured musical performances from Tom Morello, Dan Deacon, Das Racist and Immortal Technique. Protesters also assembled in Bryant Park, before marching to Wall Street together. 30 people were arrested for disorderly conduct.

Occupy Wall Street hoped to revive the movement by alerting activists to organize protests across the country on May 1, also known as International Workers' Day. Occupy Wall Street encouraged individuals to stay home from work and school, and to avoid consumer spending. Occupy's official website deemed the event "a day without the 99%."  Major May Day protests also took place in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle.

The Occupy Wall Street movement began last summer to protest economic disparities in the United States.
