Tom Morello, guitarist for Rage Against the Machine, organized the "guitarmy," calling for 10 000 guitar players to join him in a performance at an Occupy Wall Street rally, which took place later that day. In addition to his performance, Morello also delivered a speech to Occupy protesters.
The Occupy Wall Street protests in New York City were part of the movement's nationwide May Day, which called upon the 99% to refuse to attend work or school, and to avoid consumer spending.
