Demonstrators gathered in Taksim Square in Istanbul, Turkey on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, for the International Workers' May Day. Taksim Square was a symbolic place to meet on May 1 because it was the 35th anniversary of the deaths of at least 34 people there.

After the Government opened the central Place in Istanbul, the Taksim, for the demonstration on 1 May in Istanbul are peacefully. Violent fights between Police and demonstrators were quite normal some years before, but did not happen, even after the police were heavily prepared.
Tens of thousands of demonstrators, the most of them supporting labour unions, left or democratic parties or groups, gathered peacefully in Taksim Square and the streets surrounding the place.
