Protestors in Moscow want a Russia without Putin

Thousands of Russians gathered peacefully in downtown Moscow on March 5, 2012  to protest the latest presidential elections they consider as corrupt as the December 2011 elections that started this protest movement.

During the rally, hundreds of people have been taken to custody by the police. Russians protesting Putin’s win and the alleged voter fraud gathered in Moscow’s Pushkin square on Monday, chanting phrases like “Russia without Putin.” When riot police demanded the protesters disperse, some gathered near prominent opposition blogger Aleksei Navalny, according to the New York Times.

Vladimir Putin has been elected again with a remarkable 64% of the vote on Sunday, March 4, 2012  marking a third term as president as a victory over opponents who he said were trying to usurp power by undermining the Russian state.
