"What remains of the Berlin Wall, twenty years after its fall?
The Wall used to encircle West Berlin over 155 km. There is only 2 km left today, notably on Bernauer Strasse, Mühlen Strasse and Niederkirchner Strasse. A double row of cobblestones marks the track of the Wall of Shame, according to our Citizenside member.
Here and there, one can see memorial stones around which young people born after the fall of the wall dwell upon. With the anniversary of its fall approaching, the wall also attracts many television crews.
Shopkeepers have taken over the place. For a few euros, tourists can buy a piece of the wall, have their passports signed with former RDA stamps, have their photo with an operetta soldier preferably at Checkpoint Charlie or make a safari tour in Berlin in a legendary Trabant.
The authorities have not forgotten to protect the wall with a system of wires".
