Brazil: Students protest restrictions under new transport policy

News São Paulo, Brazil - 11 August 2017

Students took to streets in Sao Paulo, brazil on August 11, 2017 to protest against the restriction imposed by the city on the use of the free student pass benefit. The act was convened by the National Union of Students (UNE), União Paulista de Estudantes Secundaristas and União Estadual de Estudantes, on August 11, 2017. It cuts down the number of free bus trips a student can take in a day by half, increasing the economic burden on students to travel to schools and universities. This measure is expected to help the city save 70 million dollars by the end of this year, which it plans to re-invest in education, officials said.
