London: Protesters urge Indonesia to halt Mary Jane Veloso's execution

News London, United Kingdom - 26 April 2015

Protesters gathered at the Embassy of Indonesia on April 26, 2015 to support Filipino maid Mary Jane Veloso, on death row for attempting to smuggle heroin into Indonesia from Malaysia.

Veloso and nine other drug smugglers could face a firing squad on the Indonesian prison island of Nusakambangan as early as Wednesday after receiving 72-hour execution notices over the weekend.

The 30-year-old maid and mother of two boys was arrested for carrying 2.6 kilograms of heroin in her luggage at Java's Adisucipto International Airport in April 2010. Her supporters proclaim her innocence, saying she was tricked by a drug syndicate.
