Spanish Actors Stage Anti-Austerity ProtestsNews Madrid, Spain - 14 November 2012
Actors in Madrid (Dressed in black and face painted white) went to the doors of the Lion King Musical in the theater "Lope de Vega" to close it and sat blocking Madrid's Gran Vía. November 14, 2012, there were no plays, concerts, or musicals; everything was closed down to protest against the incredible taxes that have been set for culture in Spain.
The Lion King musical was the only production that had not been canceled. Actors outside surrounded the theater and blocked the way so the audience (families with little kids, couples..) could not enter, shouting: "Come back another day!" "Ask for a refund!" "The actors inside are obliged to work!" Some audience members would turn around and leave, others would shout back: "Get a job!" or lift a finger after being pushed around.
The play went on as usual for the audience that had come from all over Spain to watch the Lion King live.
