Poems 'rain' over LondonNews London, United Kingdom - 26 June 2012
A helicopter dropped poems over the Jubilee Gardens in London, during the "Rain of Poems" event on June 26, 2012.
According to an article in the Huffington Post, the "Rain of Poems" takes place in cities that were previously bombed. Los Casagrande, the Chilean arts collective that organized the event, believes "the performance has a symbolic value that serves to create an alternative image of the past."
London was chosen for the World War II air bombings of the city, which resulted in the deaths of 30 000 residents.
Los Casagrande selected poems from internationally recognized authors and poets.
Our contributor writes:
"Reportedly one hundred thousand poems printed on bookmarks by over 300 contemporary poets from 204 countries were dropped from a helicopter.
London is the sixth city to host the Rain of Poem[s]. Earlier it has been held in Germany, Spain, Poland, Croatia and Chile."
