Tahrir Square demonstration against election candidate Ahmed Shafiq, former Mubarak PM

News Cairo, Egypt - 01 June 2012

Egyptian protestors gathered in Tahrir Square once more on June 1, 2012, to participate in the "Disenfranchisement Friday" protesting candidate Ahmed Shafiq. They want him barred from running for the president in the elections. Earlier in the week it was announced that Shafiq would face Mohammed Morsi in the second round of elections from June 16 to June 17, 2012. Since Shafiq is the former prime minister of the regime of removed president Hosni Mubarak, the protestors believe he should not be able to run for president. Protestors chanted slogans against Mubarak, Shafik and what they call a military rule.
