Mohamed Morsi holds final rally before presidential elections

News , Egypt - 20 May 2012

Tens of thousands of supporters for Muslim brotherhood presidential candidate Mohamed Morsi rallied in his last electoral conference in Cairo on May 20, 2012. The rally took place 48 hours before the elections.

Morsi is one of the three main candidates for the Egyptian presidential election. The Egyptian Islamist voting base is currently divided between Morsi and Abden-Mondem Abolfotoh, whose ideology is viewed as more moderate.

Amr Moussa, the former head of the Arab League and foreign minister under Mubarak, remains popular among the country's secular voters. While Moussa has gained support among the liberal sector, he remains mistrusted by many, who view his former ties with the Mubarak regime as troubling.

The elections will be held between May 23 and May 24. If no candidate receives a clear 50 percent of the vote, run-off elections will take place between June 16 and 17.
