Lantern making competition to prepare for festival of light in Mangalore, India

People in Mangalore, India, took part in a 'Gudu Deepa' making competition on October 23, 2011. The gudu deepa is a type of lantern with a wooden framework, covered in paper.

The competition was held in the build up to the Indian festival of light, Deepavali, at the Kudroli Gokarnatha temple. There were three categories in the classifications: traditional, modern and special model. All the lanterns were put up for display after the competition.
