Fátima Melo and Dacir Frigo read the final document of the People's Summit, on June 22, 2012 at Flamengo Park. The document summarized the main points discussed during the People's Assembly.

The reading was one of the final events for the People's Summit for Environmental and Social Justice in defense of the commons, an alternative conference to the United Nations' Rio +20 conference.

The People's Summit organized the conference in response to the United Nations' failure to achieve its objectives in its 1992 Conference on Environment and Development. The People's Summit blames world leaders' capitalistic motives for the failure of developing sustainable policies.

Our contributor writes:

"The document title is 'People's Summit at Rio+20 for Social and Environmental Justice in defense of the commons, against the commodification of life' and it summarizes the main points discussed during the plenary sessions and meetings, expressing the intense mobilization that occurred during this period - 15-22 June.

The document points to the structural causes and false solutions, solutions for people facing crisis, as well as the main axes of struggle for the next period."
