Weather Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - 17 June 2012

The People's Summit for Social and Environmental Justice in defense of the commons held a meeting discussing food sovereignty on June 17, 2012 in Rio de Janeiro.

Our contributor writes:

"Meeting Objectives: To analyze the progress of the capital on agriculture and the false solutions proposed by capitalists; reflect on what we have accumulated so far in the development and actions of food sovereignty;  enhance the organization and the international fight against transnational companies; strengthen the struggle for food sovereignty; strengthen and expand alliances.

Speakers in the morning: Nalu Farias...General political context of the crisis; Karin Nassen.... Different mechanisms for appropriating capital; Diego Monton... The offensive of capital on agriculture and common goods.

The motto of La Via Campesina in The People’s Summit declares: No to the false solutions of green capitalism! Peasant and family farm agriculture now! Peasant, family farm and indigenous agriculture actually offer the best solution to cool the planet."
