Leaders of Rio de Janeiro met to launch a new initiative - the Rio Climate Challenge, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on May 21, 2012.

Who: Eduardo Paes, the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Alfredo Sirkis and Sarney Filho of the Federal Representatives, Gilberto Gil (Singer, Composer and Environmentalist), Sérgio Besserman Vianna (Chairman of the Technical Chamber of Sustainable Development of the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro), Perpétua de Almeida and Carlos Minc were all present.


What: Launch of Initiative The Rio Climate Challenge (RCC), a Rio+20 event

Why: The Rio Climate Challenge (RCC) will allow Rio de Janeiro city to preserve the status of international reference on global environmental issues attained by the event Climate Change Convention Rio 92. The focus of RCC is the negotiation of a deal involving major emitters and most vulnerable countries.
