London celebrates World Pride Festival

Entertainment London, United Kingdom - 07 July 2012

Members of the Gay and Lesbian community paraded through London to celebrate the World Pride Festival on July 7, 2012.

According to a BBC article, about 25 000 people participated in the march. The event included a party in Trafalgar Square.

Uwern Jong, the event's spokesman, emphasized that the World Pride Festival is designed to raise awareness of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender rights.

In spite of the large turnout, this year's gay pride parade was affected by a lack of funding, due to current economic shortages. The chairman of the World Pride Festival's board, Patrick Williams, resigned shortly before the event, due to a disagreement over the event's funding.

London Mayor Boris Johnson agreed to provide £100 000 for the festival.
