A March of Students in Algeria Turns Violent

Hot Topics Algiers, Algeria - 13 April 2011

12/04/2011 - ALGIERS, Algeria — A group of students assembled in the Algerian capital, Algiers, on Tuesday to request the dismissal of the Minister of Education. Several protesters were hurt in this demonstration, which was meant to oppose a new law that bans demonstrations in the capital, as well as an education system which has lessened the value of the students' diplomas. Algeria has been shaken up by sporadic protests over the last few months, but this movement does not have the same amplitude as the revolution in the Arab world. Photo/RYAD KRAMDI
