Thousands attended London's World Pride Festival on July 7, 2012.

Our contributor writes:

"The annual London Pride makes it way through central London with its usual flamboyance, with floats missing but just as colorful. It has been 40 years since the first march in London in 1972.

This years Worldpride was licensed as a procession under the Public Order Act 1986, which means no vehicles hence the absence of floats. This issues has also lead to cancellation of Pride London events in Soho as the Pride charity, couldn’t provide the assurances required to pay the council for these closures, and thus the safety of the crowds.

Gok Cooks become a Pride London patron at the Pride gala dinner a day after Pride London chairman Patrick Williams resigned less than a week to the event after the event was drastically scaled back because of a cash crisis.

Pride has been organized by several organizations since the first official UK Gay Pride Rally which was held in London on the 1st July 1972 with Pride London itself formed in 2004."
