The 9th Thessaloniki International Book Fair opens its doors to visitors from May 24 to 27 at the HELEXPO premises, with film director, musician and writer Emir Kusturica being present at its opening.

Serbia is the Fair’s guest of honour and has organized a special Ivo Andric exhibition, plus many events with guest authors. The Fair also hosts a dedicated children and teenagers’ corner and more than 80 special events for children, including book presentations, meetings with authors and workshops.

Celebrating Thessaloniki’s centenary anniversary, the Fair features a themed exhibition of historical works and audiovisual material on the city’s history. A special tribute to poet Nikiforos Vrettakos has also been organised to celebrate the centenary of the poet’s birth.

Interbalkan Poetry Festival

The 1st Interbalkan Poetry Festival is taking place in Thessaloniki on May 24-27, within the framework of the city’s 9th International Book Fair. The festival aims to highlight the shared and diverse aspects of poetic creation in the broader Balkan region and will feature poets from Serbia, Romania, Turkey, FYROM, Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Greece.

The participating poets will recite their poems in the original language, accompanied by Greek translation, in an open discussion event, and will then answer questions. The Hellenic Authors Society, the National Book Centre (EKEBI), and the City of Thessaloniki are co-organizing the event.
