Alassane Ouattara was born on January 1st, 1942 in Dimbokro, Ivory Coast. After spending his collegiate time in the United States, he began a career with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

He became prime minister under President Felix Houphouet-Boigny in 1990. He stayed in this position until 1993, after which he became deputy managing d
irector of the IMF from 1994 to 1999.

After struggling against the regime of the 2000s, Alassane Outtara was declared president of the Ivory Coast on December 2nd, 2010. The Constitutional Council of the Ivory Coast, however, stated that the true winner of the election was Laurent Gbagbo.

And so began a conflict that would last four months, after which supporters of Ouattara went on the offensive, staging a march on Abidjan, the economic capital of the Ivory Coast.
