Madonna Louise Ciccone Ritchie, aka "The Queen of Pop", was raised in Detroit in an Italian American family. She is the third of six children. Her mother died when she was five. Her father remarried three years later and had two other children. Madonna never accepted her new family. Very smart (we would later find out that her IQ is high above average), she leaves college despite her excellent results to go to New York where she dreams of becoming a dancer. Her father decides to not give her any allowances. She then lives in extreme poverty. She later becomes a symbol of the American dream.

In 1979, she meets Dan Gilroy who teaches her the guitar. Madonna decides to become a singer. Very soon, her style and the way she dresses will make her popular. In 1982, she signs with Sire Records and starts having success with Everybody. In July 1983 , she releases her first album "Madonna", which sold 10 million copies. In 1984, she releases "Like a Virgin" that makes her an international star. It sells 21 million copies.

In 1985, she marries Sean Penn on a private beach of Malibu. They will divorce four years later. At that time, Madonna has already made 50 million dollars and is one of the youngest multi-millionaire in the world.

Madonna released her third album, "True Blue", in 1986, sold 22 million copies. She does her first international tour "Who's that girl?". In 1989, she releases "Like a Prayer". The video is a scandal among catholics (burning crosses and a black Jesus whom she kisses). Her second tour "Blond Ambition" is one of the most controversial as she pretends masturbating on the "Like a Virgin" song.
1992," Erotica" and 1994, "Bed Time stories".

In 1996, she plays in Evita and gives birth in October to a daughter Lourdes Maria Ciccone Léon. In 1998, "Ray of light", less provocative, receives many prizes. She marries producer Guy Ritchie and has a son, Rocco in 2000.

In 2003, "American life" is released. She harshly criticizes George W. Bush with new album. As a consequence, she is censored by many American TV channels. She kisses Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera at the MTV's VMA. In 2005, "Confessions on a Dance Floor" is a huge success.

She tries to adopt a baby, David, from Malawi.

Guinness World Records list her as the world's most successful female recording artist of all time and the top-earning female singer in the world with an estimated net worth of over US$400 million, having sold over 200 million records worldwide.
On March 10, 2008, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In 2008, she releases "Hard Candy" and at the end of summer and starts her 7th international tour, "Sticky and Sweet".
